Daniel Alve world cup - player to watch

Daniel Alve, the Brazilian footballer, who currently plays as an attacking back right for Barca and the National team of Brazil. Before joining Barcelona, Alves spent a successful six year spell with sevilla, winning two UEFA cups. He joined Barcelona for €34 million plus add-ons of €6 million, becoming the most expensive defender in history, and won the treble his first season with the club.

Strengths: His speed, which he often uses as an attacking weapon, makes him another forward in the line-up.

Alves honoured that definition by responding and demonstrating through his outstanding performances that the president's words were not in vain, and that the amount the club paid for him was money well spent. A short time later he won the Copa del Rey with the team, along with the Supercopa of Spain, the Liga title and the UEFA Champions League.

From humble origins, Alves was born in the town of Juazeiro, in the state of Bahia. Esporte Clube Bahia was his first club; that's where he grew up and became a soccer player. He came up from the junior divisions of that institution to reach the national team that won, in 2003, the U-20 World Cup in Qatar. He was also chosen as the best defender of the tournament.

From Bahia he moved to Sevilla in 2002, and there he won the Copa del Rey, Supercopa of Spain, European Super Cup and UEFA Cup before sealing his move to Barca. A winner in every sense of the word, he will be looking forward to adding another trophy to his list in 2010, the year of the World Cup.

samuel eto world cup - player to watch.

After earning his first cap for the national team at the tender age of 14, and becoming the youngest ever player at the 1998 World Cup, this Cameroon veteran is hitting his stride at just the right time - scoring goals left, right and centre for Serie A leaders and Champions League semi-finalists Inter Milan.

After the success of his Italian club Inter Milan in the UEFA European Champions League, Cameroonian football star Samuel Eto'o is the toast of the town and his country. This is Eto'o third success in the competition that is referred to as the Super bowl of European Football, making him the only player with Clarence Seedorf to have won the cup with three different teams. Cameroonian bloggers are proud of the accomplishment of their star player and hope that the momentum of his success can carry on for Cameroon at the World Cup.

And while it won't be an easy ride for Cameroon who take on dark-horses the Netherlands, Denmark and Japan, Eto'o will be hoping to add to his impressive tally of eight qualification goals, making him the current top scorer.

Worlds player to watch- Lionel Messi (Argentina)

The Argentine and Barcelona star is considered as one of the best football players of his generation and frequently cited as the world's best contemporary player.

Lionel Messi had received several Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player of the year nominations by the age of 21 and won both by the age of 22.

His playing style and ability have drawn comparisons to football legend Diego Maradona.
Making his debut in the 2004-2005 season for Barcelona, he broke the Spanish La Liga record for the youngest footballer to play a league game, and also the youngest to score a league goal. Major honours soon followed as Barcelona won La Liga in Messi's debut season, and won a double of the league and the Champions League in 2006.

His breakthrough season was in 2006-2007; he became a first team regular, scoring a hat-trick in El Clasico and finishing with 14 goals in 26 league games.

Perhaps his most successful season was the 2008-09, in which Messi scored 38 goals to play an integral part on a treble-wining campaign.
