Thierry Henry world cup - player to watch...

Thierry Henry was born in the gritty Les Ulis district of Paris and lived with his Antillean parents in a modest, subsidized apartment typical of Paris' shoddier banlieues. With the urging of his father, Henry devoted himself to football, and immediately began impressing local scouts with his eye-opening talent. When he as 13 years old, Henry began playing for the prestigious Parisian club Viry-Chatillon's Under-15 Team, and scored 77 goals in just 26 games. Before he turned 14, Henry was selected to attend the French Football Federation's Clairefontaine academy, a renowned breeding ground for the country's future stars. But with his skills deemed too raw, the school's top brass considered Henry a long shot for future success. It wasn't until then-Monaco manager Arsene Wenger noticed the lanky teen and signed the 16 year old to an apprentice contract. By 1994, Henry was playing for Monaco's first team, and scored three goals in his first 18 appearances.

A 32 years French player,THIERRY HENRY, the most powerful striker of the team, has hinted he could play a super-sub role for France at the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals after he again came off the bench in the 1-1 friendly draw with Tunisia last night.

"No one is above the team, we're all in this to go as far as we can together."

Henry has scored 51 goal for France but after a barren season in front of goal for Barcelona he looks set to be used from the bench by France coach Raymond Domenech in South Africa.

Nicolas Anelka has been the primary striker for Les Bleus thus far, and Henry has been the relief mainly in the second half so far. While no starting decisions have been made at this point, Henry is probably most suited to that kind of role at the moment.
